Bryce James makes college basketball debut
James redshirted his true freshman season at Arizona, but coach Tommy Lloyd showed his faith in the young guard by starting him against No. 22 UCLA on Monday night.
While his dad was on the other side of the country recovering from a win over the Bulls, James got the start and quickly dished out an assist as Ivan Kharchenkov scored Arizona’s first bucket of the season.

James’ role wasn’t clear as the season approached, with Arizona ranked No. 5 in the country and aiming for a second consecutive trip to the Final Four, but Lloyd showed his hand by starting the second-year guard in each of the Wildcats’ exhibition games.
That wasn’t just an experiment, clearly. James got the start Monday night, though he shot 0-for-3 and didn’t score a point during a quiet first half of action.
