The 2026-27 women’s college basketball season is officially kicking off this week with a matchup between South Carolina and Maryland in Paris.
South Carolina is already entering this season as a top dog, boasting the No. 1 overall ranking in the country. Dawn Staley’s squad is looking as strong as ever, with returning stars Tessa Johnson and Joyce Edwards anchoring the team, and top recruits Oliviyah Edwards and Jerzy Robinson set to bring some fresh energy.
The Terrapins won’t be an easy opponent though, sitting at No. 2 in the AP Poll. Maryland is entering their 25th season under head coach Brenda Frese, who has made much progress for the program in her tenure. The Terps have a loaded non-conference schedule ahead of them, scheduled to face No. 2 UConn before settling into Big Ten play.
