Sunday Night Football doesn’t always deliver a marquee matchup, and this week’s NFC East clash between the Eagles and Commanders is proof.

Philadelphia (2-5) limps into Northwest Stadium on a five-game losing streak and without Jalen Hurts, who’s likely done for the season with blood clots. Tanner McKee will make his third start under center, and the Eagles are still waiting on the status DeVonta Smith, while it looks like Saquon Barkley has a chance to be active in a limited role.

Washington (1-4-1) isn’t much better, but they’re coming off a bye and have home-field advantage. Jayden Daniels is still searching for his first win since October 2025, and the Commanders have been looking for payback since dropping a 24-22 decision in Philadelphia back in Week 1.

Oddsmakers think this is the night Washington finally breaks through. The Commanders are roughly 6-point favorites, with the total sitting at 40.5. Commanders vs. Eagles prediction

Neither team has given bettors much reason to trust them, but the Eagles’ offense is in a different tier of trouble right now. Philadelphia ranks 30th in both EPA per play and success rate, and they’ve generated explosive plays on just 3.4% of snaps, the second-lowest mark in the league. Even before Hurts went down, this unit was struggling to string drives together. Now McKee is working behind a line that’s allowing pressure 43% of the time.

That said, Washington’s defense is the type of group that can make a bad offense look competent. The Commanders rank 31st in success rate allowed and 31st in EPA per rush, so Philadelphia should find some room on the ground if Barkley can go. Washington has also been a mess in the red zone, giving up touchdowns on 82% of trips inside the 20. The Eagles have been sharp down there, punching it in 69% of the time, so the few drives they do finish could end in seven points.

The Commanders’ offense isn’t a world-beater, either. They’ve converted just 30.9% of their third downs, dead last in the NFL, and that kind of number tends to keep a game like this closer than it should be. Still, Daniels has had two weeks to get healthy and prepare, and the Eagles’ pass rush has been nearly invisible. If he gets time to sit in the pocket, Terry McLaurin and Stefon Diggs should be able to stretch a secondary that’s allowed a 59% red zone touchdown rate.

I expect a sloppy, low-scoring game for three quarters, with Washington pulling away late as Philadelphia’s offense runs out of answers. Daniels finally gets back in the win column on Sunday night.

Prediction: Commanders 23, Eagles 16

Commanders vs. Eagles  best bets

Rachaad White came to Washington to be the pass-catching back, and with Jacory Croskey-Merritt landing on injured reserve with a groin injury, he’s now the lead back as well. In his first game with that bigger role against San Francisco, White caught four of his five targets for 30 yards and a touchdown.

The target share should only grow from here. Terry McLaurin tore his patellar tendon in that same game and is done for the year, which leaves Jayden Daniels without his most reliable option. White played with Daniels at Arizona State, and that familiarity shows up on checkdowns and scramble drills.

His Week 5 line was quiet, with one catch for 2 yards in his first game back from a shoulder issue. That said, his Week 2 game in Dallas is closer to what I expect from him now, when he caught all six targets for 40 yards. A 9.5-yard line is basically two catches, and he’s cleared it easily when he’s healthy and on the field for passing downs.

This line has moved seven points since the summer, when Philadelphia was a small favorite. The move is justified. Jalen Hurts went on injured reserve with blood clots and is expected to miss the rest of the season, and the Eagles have lost five straight.

Tanner McKee hasn’t given them much at quarterback. He went 23 of 35 for 211 yards against Dallas on Monday, and his fourth-quarter interception to DeMarvion Overshown killed their last real shot at a comeback.

The bigger problem is on the other side of the ball. Dallas piled up 416 yards in that 38-21 win, and the Eagles’ defense finished without a sack, a takeaway, a tackle for loss or even a quarterback hit. Javonte Williams ran for 155 yards. Washington can lean on White and Daniels’ legs and keep the ball away from McKee.

The Commanders aren’t a team I trust to close games, considering they blew a 14-point fourth-quarter lead to the Giants. But Washington is coming off a bye and has had two weeks to prepare for a short-handed division rival on a short week. Philadelphia is 1-6 against the spread for a reason, and I’ll lay the points.

Daniels’ 300-yard night against the 49ers grabbed headlines, but it was his first time over 200 passing yards since Week 6 of last season. Washington was playing catch-up for most of that game, and the volume came with it.

I don’t see that script on Sunday night. If the Commanders get the lead I expect, the game plan should tilt toward the ground game against a run defense that just got gashed. Daniels does a lot of his damage with his legs anyway, and he ran for 103 yards and two scores against the Giants while throwing for just 199.

The receiver room is also thin now. Stefon Diggs and Chig Okonkwo are the main options, and the offense hasn’t had a game to figure out the pecking order without McLaurin. With the total sitting at 40.5, this projects as a grind, and 204.5 is a slightly better number than the 202.5 posted at other books.

SGP for Commanders vs. Eagles

Here is our favorite same game parlay for Sunday Night Football:

  • Chig Okonkwo 31+ receiving yards: Okonkwo has turned into Jayden Daniels’ security blanket over the last two games, piling up 129 yards on 11 catches before the bye. With Terry McLaurin banged up and Okonkwo seeing six or seven looks a week, 31 yards feels like a low bar for a tight end who’s become a legit chain-mover in this offense.
  • Commanders moneyline: Washington is 1-4-1, but they come out of the bye rested at home while the Eagles are rolling with Tanner McKee under center with Jalen Hurts on IR. That’s a big step down for Philadelphia, and I’ll back Daniels to win the quarterback battle on Sunday night.
  • Rachaad White 10+ rushing yards: With Jacory Croskey-Merritt on IR, White is the lead back, and he hasn’t been held under 20 rushing yards in a full game this season. He doesn’t need much volume here, as a handful of carries should get the job done.
  • Odds: (+118 at DraftKings)
