Sunday brings a pair of AFC heavyweights in Buffalo, where the Bills are laying about a field goal against the Baltimore Ravens in a game with one of the highest totals on the board.
Out west, the Kansas City Chiefs head to Denver as short road favorites in an AFC West clash that oddsmakers see as close to a coin flip. The Cincinnati Bengals own the biggest spread of the week, giving double digits to the Tennessee Titans.
The Philadelphia Eagles visit the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football, and the defending champion Seattle Seahawks close out the week Monday night against the Chicago Bears. The Texans, Saints, Giants and 49ers are on bye, and don’t forget that clocks fall back an hour early Sunday morning.

NFL Week 8 best bets
Each week we’ll highlight our five best bets on the entire slate. Here’s why we like these more than any other plays for Week 8.
Lions -3 vs. Vikings: The Minnesota Vikings are the last unbeaten team in the NFL, but I’m not buying a 6-0 start that’s been built almost entirely on defense. Minnesota is scoring just 20.8 points per game and averaging under 282 total yards, which is a tough way to live against a team that can put up points the way Detroit can.
The Vikings needed everything they had to get past a struggling Colts team last week, winning 16-10 and failing to cover as 7-point home favorites. That’s the kind of performance that catches up with you on the road in a division game.
Detroit hasn’t been sharp against the number, going 1-4-1 ATS, but the Lions averaged 32.8 points per game through their first five outings before grinding out a 20-17 win over Green Bay. Jared Goff at home is a different animal, and getting Brian Branch back gives this secondary a real boost. I’ll lay the field goal and trust the better team to win by more than three.
Rams -6.5 vs. Chargers: It’s hard to find anything the Los Angeles Chargers are doing well right now. They’re 0-6 for the first time since 2000, haven’t covered a spread all season, and were held without a touchdown in a 22-6 loss at Kansas City before the bye.
The bigger issue is under center. Justin Herbert has looked nothing like himself behind an offensive line that’s been down to backups, and Jim Harbaugh said this week that nothing is off the table, including scaling back the offense. A team considering a simpler playbook in Week 8 isn’t a team I want to back against a capable offense.
The Rams were the preseason Super Bowl favorite and have been a letdown at 3-4, but they looked more like themselves in a 35-21 win over the Raiders. Puka Nacua appears healthy, and Kyren Williams and Blake Corum have the run game moving. I’d grab -6.5 now before this creeps to a full touchdown.
Browns +3.5 vs. Steelers: With a total sitting at 39.5, every point in this game carries real weight, and I’ll gladly take the hook with Cleveland.
The Browns are 5-2 ATS and have covered five of six since getting blown out by Jacksonville in Week 1. They didn’t look pretty against Tennessee, falling behind 14-0, but Deshaun Watson rallied them and Andre Szmyt hit a 32-yard field goal at the buzzer to win 27-24.
Pittsburgh has won three straight, but the offense managed just 16 points against the Saints in Paris, and the only second-half score was a field goal. Now the Steelers return from an overseas trip to face a divisional opponent that’s playing with plenty of confidence. I expect this to be a slog decided by a field goal either way.
Commanders -5 vs. Eagles: This line would’ve been unthinkable in August, but the Philadelphia Eagles are in a tough spot. Jalen Hurts is out for the season with blood-clot issues, and Tanner McKee has struggled to move the offense, with the Eagles failing to score more than 20 points during their four-game losing streak heading into Monday night.
Washington is just 1-4-1, but the Commanders are coming off a bye and gave an unbeaten 49ers team all it could handle in a 23-17 loss back in Week 6. They’ve had two weeks to prepare, while Philadelphia is turning around after a physical Monday night game against Dallas.
The Eagles are 1-5 ATS for a reason. I’ll take Washington at -5 rather than chase -5.5 elsewhere.
Chiefs vs. Broncos under 40.5: Patrick Mahomes just had arguably the worst game of his career. Seattle held Kansas City to three points, 213 yards and 11 first downs, and it was the first time the Chiefs failed to reach the red zone in a game Mahomes started.
Denver’s defense is built to keep that frustration going. The Broncos have won three straight and are 5-1 since a Week 1 loss to the Chiefs, but their wins haven’t exactly been shootouts. They beat Seattle 17-14 in overtime and slipped past the Chargers 23-17.
Kenneth Walker III was bottled up for 36 yards on 14 carries last week, and I don’t see the Chiefs suddenly finding easy yards in Denver. Two teams fighting for the AFC West lead should play this one close to the vest, and I like the under.

NFL Week 8 expert picks
Best NFL Week 8 spread bets
Laying double digits in the NFL is never comfortable, but Cincinnati looks like a team that’s starting to roll. The Bengals went into Baltimore last week, fell behind 13-0 at halftime, and then ripped off 35 unanswered points. Joe Burrow threw four touchdown passes after the break, and this offense has been one of the most efficient in the league all season.
Tennessee just can’t get out of its own way. The Titans jumped out to a 14-0 lead on Cleveland last week and still found a way to lose on a field goal as time expired, dropping them to 1-6. They’re a team that can hang around for a quarter or two, but Cincinnati has the firepower to pull away late. I’ll trust the Bengals to keep their foot on the gas at home.
Chicago has quietly become one of the better teams in the NFC, going 4-1 straight up and against the spread over its last five games. The Bears held off New England 30-24 last Thursday, which also means they get a few extra days of rest heading into this one.
The defense has been the real surprise, ranking among the league’s best in opponent success rate. Seattle got a big win against Kansas City, but the Seahawks are just 2-4-1 ATS and could be without Rashid Shaheed and left tackle Charles Cross after both left that game with injuries.
The extra juice is worth paying to get the hook. This feels like a game decided by a field goal, and I’d rather be holding the points with the more rested team.
Neither of these teams is inspiring much confidence, but I’m not laying points with a New York Jets team that just lost at home to a previously winless Miami squad. The Jets were down 21-7 at halftime in that game and are now 2-5.
Las Vegas has dropped four straight after a 3-0 start, including a 35-21 loss to the Rams last week. That said, the Raiders have been a much better bet than their record suggests at 5-2 ATS, and they’ve been more competitive than the Jets have been for most of the season.
This line is basically asking which team is less likely to beat itself, and that’s the Raiders. I’ll take the point and a half.
Best NFL Week 8 moneyline bets
Atlanta just handed San Francisco its first loss of the season, and it wasn’t a fluke. The Falcons fell behind 14-3 in the second quarter, then scored the next 23 points and forced four turnovers in a 29-20 win.
Tampa Bay’s 43-13 blowout of Carolina looks great on paper, but dig into it, and it’s a lot less convincing. The Bucs won the turnover battle 4-0 and scored on a fumble return, while Baker Mayfield threw for just 64 yards in his first game back from a dislocated thumb. That’s not a formula that repeats itself every week, especially against a defense that’s suddenly making plays.
The Bucs are still just 2-5, and this line feels like an overreaction to one lopsided score. I’ll take Atlanta to win outright at a plus price.
Kansas City’s offense has hit a wall. Patrick Mahomes hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass in either of his last two games, and the Chiefs needed their defense to carry them past a winless Chargers team before getting shut down in Seattle.
Denver, meanwhile, has won three in a row and is 5-2 against the spread. The Broncos handled Arizona 30-16 last week as road favorites and get this one at home with the division lead on the line.
The market has this game as a near coin flip, and I’ll side with the hotter team at altitude. Getting the Broncos at plus money at home against a struggling offense is a spot I’m happy to take.
This is the swing pick of the bunch, but I think there’s real value in the underdog here. Arizona already proved it can pull an upset, stunning the Rams a couple of weeks ago, and the Cardinals’ offense has been respectable even during a 2-5 start.
Dallas sits at 2-4 and has been prone to letdowns, including a 24-16 home loss to a Tampa Bay team that was winless at the time. The Cowboys can score with anyone, but their defense has been shaky enough that a total of 54.5 tells you oddsmakers expect points on both sides.
High-scoring games tend to open the door for underdogs, since one or two extra possessions can swing the result. At nearly 3-to-1, the Cardinals are worth a small piece.
Best NFL Week 8 over/under bets
Dallas games have been a good bet for over backers, with the over hitting in four of the Cowboys’ first six. The offense has been one of the best in the league, and Dak Prescott has been especially lethal once he crosses midfield, leading the NFL in passer rating in opponent territory.
The problem is the other side of the ball. The Cowboys’ defense has struggled to get stops, and Arizona has an offense that can take advantage, ranking in the top half of the league in success rate. Neither team has been able to keep opponents off the scoreboard with any consistency.
This is the highest total on the board for a reason, but I still think there’s room for it to go over. I expect both teams to trade scores for four quarters.
This number feels inflated by the names involved. Baltimore’s offense has looked lost without Lamar Jackson, and the Ravens were shut out in the second half of last week’s 35-13 loss to Cincinnati after taking a 13-0 lead into the break.
Even if Jackson returns, he’d be working off some rust against a rested Buffalo team coming out of its bye. The Bills are 5-1, but they haven’t been lighting up the scoreboard lately, winning each of their last two games by just three points.
I’ll gladly take the under at this number.
Low totals can be tough to bet under, but this matchup sets up for a grind. Pittsburgh has leaned heavily on Jaylen Warren and the run game, which keeps the clock moving and limits the number of possessions for both teams.
Cleveland got into a back-and-forth game with Tennessee last week, but that was the exception. The Browns have played well over the last six weeks because of their ability to stay in games, not because they’ve been putting up big numbers.
It’s a divisional game in Pittsburgh in November between two teams that know each other well. I’m expecting plenty of field goals and not many explosive plays.
NFL Week 8 player props
The Rams have leaned into the ground game with Davante Adams sidelined, running 35 designed rushing plays in their first game without him, by far the most of the season. Blake Corum got a few more touches than Kyren Williams in that win over the Raiders, but Williams was the more efficient back at 6.2 yards per carry and finished one yard shy of 100.
That workload should carry over against a Chargers team that’s already given up nine rushing touchdowns. Los Angeles is a touchdown favorite, and a comfortable lead in the second half means plenty of handoffs to close things out.
Williams already has three games of 80-plus rushing yards this season. He doesn’t need anything close to that kind of day to clear this number.
Minnesota’s defense has been the engine behind its unbeaten start, holding opponents to 12.3 points per game, and a big part of that is how aggressively it comes after the quarterback. That pressure tends to push offenses into a quick passing game, and few quarterbacks are better at getting the ball out on time than Goff.
Expect a steady diet of short throws to Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta and Jahmyr Gibbs out of the backfield. Those quick completions add up, and Goff at home in a divisional game should have no trouble staying on schedule.
I’m not chasing a big yardage total against this defense, but the completions market lines up perfectly with how Detroit will need to attack.
Best NFL Week 8 parlay
- Falcons ML (vs Buccaneers)
- Bills ML (vs Ravens)
- Jaguars ML (vs Colts)
- Bengals ML (vs Titans)
- Odds (+375 at BetMGM)
This four-leg parlay leans on rest and matchups. Buffalo and Jacksonville are both coming off byes, and Josh Allen is 8-0 in his career coming out of a week off. The Bills are already 5-1, and they get a Baltimore team that’s been searching for answers on offense, with Lamar Jackson’s status still up in the air. Jacksonville should be just as fresh against an Indianapolis team that’s dropped to 2-5 and is the only team Tennessee has managed to beat this season.
Cincinnati is the anchor here. The Bengals have one of the most efficient offenses in the league and get a 1-6 Titans team at home, so I’m comfortable using them to build the payout rather than betting them on their own at a steep price. Atlanta is the one plus-money leg, and that’s where the value comes from. The Falcons just knocked off an unbeaten 49ers team, and I’m not convinced a 2-5 Bucs team is as good as last week’s blowout made it look. Tying all four together at +375 turns a group of favorites I’d back anyway into a real return.
Best NFL Week 8 SGP
Same-game parlays work best when the legs feed off each other, and this one is built around Buffalo winning a shootout. If Lamar Jackson is back for Baltimore, and head coach Jesse Minter sounded optimistic about that this week, the Ravens have the talent to keep pace against a Bills defense that’s given up the fourth-most fantasy points to receivers this season. That’s the kind of back-and-forth game that pushes a total past 54.5.
Josh Allen is the piece that ties it together. Buffalo has had two weeks to prepare, and when the Bills get near the goal line, Allen is just as likely to tuck it and run as he is to throw it. His legs have limited how often he finds the end zone through the air, but that same rushing ability makes him one of the best bets at the position to score himself. If the Bills win a high-scoring game, there’s a good chance Allen had a hand in it on the ground.
Best NFL Week 8 Teaser
Teasers are all about moving lines through the key numbers, and every leg here does that. The Browns jump from +3.5 to +9.5, getting past both 3 and 7 in a game with a total below 40, where points are hard to come by. Pittsburgh would need a double-digit win in a matchup that should be a grind, and Cleveland hasn’t been blown out since Week 1. The Jaguars move down to -4 coming off a bye against a Colts offense that managed just one touchdown in last week’s loss to Minnesota, so Jacksonville only needs a comfortable win, not a rout.
The Rams leg turns into a simple question of whether they can beat a winless Chargers team, and I’ll take my chances with that. Arizona at +13 gives the Cardinals plenty of room in a game expected to be high-scoring, where a late touchdown can easily keep the underdog within two scores. Dallas hasn’t shown it can consistently put teams away, and grabbing those extra six points turns a coin-flip spread into a much more comfortable spot.
