This offseason marked a major turning point for the Milwaukee Bucks, as the franchise officially changed course and reshaped its future. Milwaukee is now entering a rebuild, hoping that investing in young talent will pay off in the long run.

The Bucks had to start somewhere, and that meant trading franchise superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat.

“The Milwaukee Bucks are trading franchise icon Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat for Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks (including No. 13 in Tuesday’s NBA draft), one pick swap and one second-round pick, sources told ESPN. The Heat are sending to Milwaukee unprotected first-rounders in 2031 and 2033 along with No. 13, a pick swap in 2030 and a 2033 second-rounder, according to sources,” ESPN’s Shams Charania wrote.

Tyler Herro is arguably the most notable player headed to Milwaukee in the deal. However, CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn believes Herro could eventually be traded to the Detroit Pistons.

“Detroit was the rumored destination in the offseason, and it was a sensible one. The Pistons can cover for him defensively better than most suitors. They need another high-end shot-creator, but can’t pay max money for one with Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson now extended,” Quinn wrote.

Herro could provide exactly what the Pistons have been missing over the past year. The veteran guard would give Detroit another reliable perimeter shooter and an additional scoring option.

“Most notably, the Pistons are even snagging wins when they shoot poorly from beyond the arc. In an era of basketball where consistency from three-point range is preached as paramount, the Detroit Pistons are winning in their own way. Their tough defense and efficiency inside the paint has defined their identity this season,” SI’s Aidan Chacon wrote.

A potential trade could benefit both sides. The Bucks would have another opportunity to get younger and continue building for the future, while the Pistons could add an established scorer to strengthen their championship hopes. With Detroit looking to take the next step, Herro could be an appealing target.

Herro is entering the final year of his $120 million deal, making a potential trade a gamble for Detroit if he is only a short-term addition. However, if the Pistons believe he can help them win a championship, the risk could be worth taking.
