The Green Bay Packers, coming off a tough loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 7, are now set to face the Carolina Panthers on a short week for Thursday Night Football.
This is a huge game for the Packers, as they currently sit at 4-3, last place in the NFC North. A win this week would get them back on track, while a loss could put their playoff hopes in jeopardy. But unfortunately, there is some uncertainty around a key player.
Matthew Golden has been limited at practice the past few days leading up to TNF with shoulder and foot issues, and his status is murky. ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared an update from the Packers on Golden’s Week 8 status that didn’t clear the air much for Green Bay.
Packers share Matthew Golden update that has Week 8 in question
“Packers are listing WR Matthew Golden (shoulder/foot), DTs Devonte Wyatt (ankle) and Anthony Campbell (ankle), and edge rusher Brenton Cox Jr. (quadricep) as questionable for Thursday night vs. Carolina,” Schefter reports.
This update from the Packers is a noteworthy one, as Golden’s status for Week 8 is the one worth paying close attention to. While this doesn’t confirm one way or another that he’s playing, it at least wasn’t new that he’s out.
After starting the week as a “DNP” and not participating in practice, Rob Demovsky of ESPN shared that Golden was upgraded to a limited participant on Wednesday.

That’s a good sign for Golden, as he’s trending in the right direction. Getting onto the practice field and getting in some work, enough to qualify as a limited participant, bodes well for his chances of suiting up in Week 8.
Had he been a DNP once again, there would’ve been real concern he could go, or the Packers might’ve even ruled him out for this week’s matchup on Wednesday.
But with Green Bay listing him as questionable and his practice reports going from DNP to limited, there’s a real chance he’s able to suit up against the Panthers on Thursday night.
Tucker Kraft, Christian Watson, and Savion Williams will be the primary pass-catchers for Jordan Love if Golden can’t go. But this update from the Packers indicates that Golden has a chance to play, which is great news all things considered for Green Bay.
