Luka Modric’s time at Real Madrid is coming to an end.

After more than a decade of brilliance, the 39-year-old midfielder will leave the club following the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States- which would end his 13-year spell in Spain.

Modric has been one of the most important players in the club’s modern history, winning 28 titles, including six Champions Leagues and four La Ligas

His departure leaves a big hole in midfield, and Real Madrid are already looking for replacements.

Xabi Alonso, who took over as coach in June, is already trying out combinations with Jude Bellingham and Arda Guler.

The club also reportedly expects to sign Argentine talent Franco Mastantuono in August, but he’s seen as a long-term project, not an immediate solution in central midfield. The coaching staff and the recruitment department are watching the market.

PSG star emerges as a key option in midfield restructuring

According to a report from Defensa Central,  Xabi Alonso is convinced Real Madrid could find themselves exposed if they don’t secure a reliable successor in the middle of the park, with PSG midfielder Vitinha high on their wishlist.

The Portuguese international was a regular starter in Paris last season, playing a key role in their domestic and European success alongside Fabian Ruiz and Joao Neves.

However, a transfer would be complicated with Jorge Mendes, the player’s agent, communicating PSG’s stance – Vitinha will not be allowed to leave unless a club meets the €130m [$153m] price tag.

While Madrid values him highly, the club is not expected to pay that amount.
