The Washington Wizards were one of the most hyped up teams going into the season, given that they were set to debut a lineup consisting of Trae Young and Anthony Davis, two players they acquired in the previous season who hadn’t taken the court together since then. Adding to that, the addition of the first overall pick from the 2026 NBA Draft, AJ Dybantsa, someone who was averaging some significant numbers at the collegiate level.

It’s not an understatement to say that things were only looking up for Washington.

But the NBA world hasn’t gotten a chance to see this lineup at its full potential during the regular season, as Dybantsa has been sidelined with an ankle sprain that he suffered during the Wizards’ final preseason match.

It appears that fans will have to wait beyond Monday to get a better look, as Washington’s rookie has been given some bad news for the match.

Dybantsa to miss Monday’s match against Charlotte

According to the NBA’s injury report, Dybantsa has been ruled out against the Charlotte Hornets due to the aforementioned ankle sprain.

In the meantime, it’s certain that Bilal Coulibaly will continue to soak up the minutes left by the rookie, something that he’s been shining in. Across his three games this season, the fourth-year wing is averaging 9.7 points and four rebounds, with his scoring numbers being a grade below his career averages.

The good news surrounding Dybantsa is that during the time that he’s spent playing with NBA-level talents, he’s looked good, putting up double-digit scoring numbers in each of his four preseason appearances.

Tip-off between the Wizards and Hornets is slated for 7:00 p.m. EST.
