UFC 333 prelims predictions

The following odds are all courtesy of the DraftKings Sportsbook.

Azamat Murzakanov vs. Dominick Reyes odds (Light heavyweight)

Fighter Point spread Total rounds Moneyline
Azamat Murzakanov -3.5 (-160) O 1.5 (+100) -205
Dominick Reyes +3.5 (+120) U 1.5 (-130) +170

Murzakanov vs. Reyes prediction and best bet

Murzakanov is coming off a loss to Paulo Costa, getting knocked out. Before that, he was unbeaten in the octagon. “The Professional” lands 4.40 significant strikes per minute and averages 0.68 takedowns landed per 15 minutes.

Reyes is a former UFC light heavyweight title contender who was very close to beating Jon Jones for gold. “The Devastator” is 4-1 in his last five fights. He lands 4.99 significant strikes and averages 0.25 takedowns landed.

Was Murzakanov’s loss motivation to tighten things up? Is Reyes’ run all hype? Reyes has fought his way back to relevancy. It hasn’t been pretty, but he appears motivated. Earning an upset win doesn’t seem far off.

Nikita Krylov vs. Abdul-Rakhman Yakhyaev odds (Light Heavyweight)

Fighter Point spread Total rounds Moneyline
Nikita Krylov +3.5 (+330) O 1.5 (+210) +410
Abdul-Rakhman Yakhyaev +3.5 (-525) U 1.5 (-280) -550

Krylov vs. Yakhyaev prediction and best bet

Krylov is 1-3 in his last four fights. He lands 4.38 significant strikes per minute and averages 2.19 takedowns landed per 15 minutes. All four of Aakhyaev’s octagon fights have ended via knockout. He’s only landed double-digit strikes once.

Krylov’s (lack of) durability may fail him here. While he’s shown promise on the ground, Aakhyaev has proven in a short period of time that he’s dangerous across all fronts of MMA. A massive upset is possible, but not likely.

Abus Magomedov vs. Cameron Rowston odds (Middleweight)

Fighter Point spread Total rounds Moneyline
Abus Magomedov -3.5 (+105) O 1.5 (-180) -122
Cameron Rowston +3.5 (-140) U 1.5 (+140) +102

Magomedov vs. Rowston prediction and best bet

Magomedov lands 3.06 significant strikes per minute and averages 2.50 takedowns landed per 15 minutes. After Joe Pyfer beat him, Magomedov quickly returned to his winning ways against Michal Oleksiejczuk. Rowston lands 4.60 significant strikes and averages 1.34 takedowns landed.

It’s a very unique matchup. Rowston is more athletic, but Magomedov is more technical. The former has a height edge, but both have the same reach. Magomedov can be dangerous. However, after proving himself on Dana White’s Contender Series, it feels like it’s Rowston’s time to shine.

Grant Dawson vs. Nurullo Aliev odds (Lightweight)

Fighter Point spread Total rounds Moneyline
Grant Dawson -3.5 (+150) O 2.5 (-245) -115
Nurullo Aliev +3.5 (-205) U 2.5 (+185) -105

Dawson vs. Aliev prediction and best bet

Dawson lands 3.14 significant strikes per minute and averages 3.58 takedowns landed per 15 minutes. He landed six takedowns against Diego Ferreira. Aliev lands 2.29 significant strikes and averages 3.48 takedowns landed, landing eight against Mike Davis.

Expect a lot of grappling in this matchup. It’s anyone’s game, and whoever can tire the other out should win. Dawson’s body of work is more impressive, which may be enough.
