A new era in Orlando officially begins Wednesday as the Magic open Sean Sweeney’s first season as a head coach against the Hawks.
Orlando feels it has the pieces to compete after going up 3-1 on the East’s top seed, the Pistons, in last year’s playoffs. But that lead slipping away prompted the team to make a coaching change in hopes that a new voice will help the Magic move forward.
The key will be keeping stars Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner healthy, which would allow Sweeney to maximize the potential of that pair alongside Desmond Bane.
Fans will get their first look at the new setup in games that count Wednesday against the Hawks, who took two games off the Knicks in the opening round of the playoffs before New York lost just once more in the next three rounds on the way to the title. Jalen Johnson, CJ McCollum and Nickeil Alexander-Walker are back to lead the way for Atlanta.
It all kicks off Wednesday in Orlando. Here’s all you need to know to tune in.
