The BYU Cougars football program had a major weekend, which included upsetting No. 2 Notre Dame and taking the spot in the latest AP Top 25 poll. But one detail was overlooked.

Steve Young was tabbed as ESPN GameDay’s guest picker and showed off his knowledge of the game. The BYU legend nailed all ten picks for a perfect set of predictions on Saturday. His biggest was the Cougars taking care of business against the Irish. Pat McAfee was the only one other than young to pick BYU.

Being able to stay perfect was an incredibly difficult feat for Young. The college football schedule was rocky in Week 7 with five of the top eight teams falling to defeat.

Before his Hall of Fame NFL career, Young was a star quarterback at BYU in the 80s. In his senior season, he led the nation in passing yards (3,902), passing touchdowns (33), and passer rating.

Young was a unanimous All-American, earned the Davey O’Brien Award, and finished second in Heisman voting behind Nebraska running back Mike Rozier. Young worked as an NFL analyst for ESPN for over two decades before the Network let him go in 2023.

This was the first time BYU has hosted College GameDay in 17 years.

The No. 2 Cougars enter Saturday’s matchup with UCF boasting a 6-0 record, while Notre Dame is 6-1 and suffered a blow to the Irish’s College Football Playoff hopes. Miami took over as the nation’s new No. 1 team. Last year’s national championship runner-up is on top of the poll for the first time in over two decades.

As for BYU, this was the highest ranking in 42 years since the team was No. 1 during the 1984 national championship run for LaVell Edwards and the Cougars.

College GameDay stays in the Beehive State this week for a Big 12 battle with Utah and Houston.
