The Houston Astros fired general manager Dana Brown in August.
Shortly after, many assumed that manager Joe Espada would meet a similar fate.
However, Houston’s front office allowed him to finish out the season
According to ESPN’s Jose Castillo, the Astros will not renew Espada’s contract for the 2027 season and beyond.
“As expected, the Astros announce they won’t renew manager Joe Espada’s contract when it expires at the end of the month,” Castillo wrote on X.
Espada is not the only Astros coach who has been relieved of their duties. Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports the following:
“Also let go: Catching Instructor Tim Cossins, Game Planning Coach Tommy Kawamura, Third Base Coach Tony Perezchica, Assistant Hitting Coach Anthony Iapoce, Assistant Pitching Coach Ethan Katz. Bench coach Omar Lopez is out as bench coach but offered job to remain in another capacity,” Nightengale wrote on X.

In three seasons with Espada at the helm, the Astros failed to win a postseason series and won one division title.
However, Houston’s 81-81 record was less than impressive in a weak American League West.
The Astros will search for a new voice that can help the organization reach its yearly goal of winning a World Series.
