As the Buffalo Bills beat the Los Angeles Rams in overtime 37-34 on Monday night, Josh Allen actually secured a first in his NFL career.
The Bills’ win means that Allen got his first win in overtime, ending a notable drought for one of the game’s great players. While Allen has played many high-level overtime games in his career, Buffalo has found themselves on the wrong end of them
Buffalo’s last overtime win came in 2017, when Tyrod Taylor led the team to a 13-7 win over the Indianapolis Colts. When Tyler Bass’ field goal went through the uprights, Allen breathed a huge sigh of relief.

While Allen continues to check accomplishments off in his career, this is one that he would probably say took too long to secure. Now, the quarterback doesn’t have to think about his tough overtime record whenever Bills games go into extra time moving forward.
Here’s how Allen ended his long overtime drought.

Josh Allen overtime record
Allen is now 1-7 in overtime games, getting his first win in extra time in his ninth season. Previously, a few of Allen’s overtime losses saw him not getting the ball back before the NFL changed the overtime rules, and those games were often against top-tier opponents.
Of those seven losses, three have come in the playoffs. Allen’s most famous overtime loss is, of course, the “13 seconds” game against the Kansas City Chiefs in January of 2022. He also lost in overtime to the Houston Texans in his first playoff game, which was a Wild-Card game in January of 2020, along with a divisional round loss to the Denver Broncos in January of 2026.

Otherwise, Allen had regular season overtime losses against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021, the Minnesota Vikings in 2022, the New York Jets in 2023, and the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023. Six of Allen’s overtime losses came against teams in the playoffs or teams that would go on to make the playoffs that season.
Allen is also now 1-0 in overtime games with Joe Brady as his head coach, since the previous seven losses came alongside Sean McDermott.
