The Golden State Warriors are just trying to get as healthy as possible before the regular season, as it is already known that some of their main guys will miss some time. Jimmy Butler is one of those guys.
The veteran went down with a knee injury last season. Butler had to undergo ACL surgery.
“Injured Golden State Warriors star Jimmy Butler underwent successful surgery on his torn right ACL on Monday morning in Los Angeles, the team announced,” ESPN’s Anthony Slater wrote. “Butler suffered the injury on Jan. 19 in a win over the Miami Heat. He consulted several specialists for the surgery, landing on Dr. Bert Mandelbaum, who performed it on Monday morning with a few members of the Warriors’ organization on hand.”
In a recent interview, Butler revealed how he was feeling so far into his recovery.
“Great! My knee aches a little bit, but outside of that, I feel amazing. I’m super blessed to be able to play for some amazing organizations with some Hall of Fame players and I can say, I am probably with the greatest player that I have ever played with right now in this team for the greatest organization, so 16 years in and to end up over here with the Warriors, couldn’t ask for a better story,” Butler said.
With it being unclear how Butler will come back and how real of a shot Golden State has at a championship, Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz proposed a deal that sends him to the New Orleans Pelicans for Trey Murphy III and Dejounte Murray.
“Using Butler’s expiring salary, along with a haul of first-round picks, to make a run at Trey Murphy III and Dejounte Murray could help save the Warriors’ title hopes and benefit the Pelicans in the long run,” Swartz wrote.
This would be a good duo to get for the Warriors, as they are veterans and would provide more depth. Murphy is going to be a hound on the defensive end for the Warriors, and Murray can score the ball.
Murphy and Murray are on the books for $226 million as of right now. Golden State would be taking on two big salaries, but it would be to help Steph Curry chase one last championship. This move could change the complexion of the season for the Warriors.
