The Washington Commanders got Week 5 underway out in London against the Indianapolis Colts, dropping the game 30-13 after Marcus Mariota went down with an injury.
Mariota, who is starting for the injured Jayden Daniels, had played well the week prior against the Seattle Seahawks. Unfortunately for Washington, it had to turn to third-stringer Athan Kaliakmanis.
Daniels, who dislocated his left elbow, seemed to have a gruesome injury that was going to keep him out for the remainder of the season. However, the former LSU standout is seemingly on track to potentially play again in the near future.
According to the latest from Commanders head coach Dan Quinn, there’s even a possibility that he could play in this upcoming week against the New York Giants.
“That’s the hope for us for sure, [Jayden] coming back,” Quinn said, per CBS.
“He’ll have a full week of practice Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. That’s the goal that he could get into that space. Once we see where Marcus [Mariota] is … we’ll have a better understanding. That’s the goal for Jayden to throw a full week. He was able to do some limited this week, and this week would be the plan for him to do all the reps.”
Daniels coming back already would be shocking, mainly because of how gruesome that injury looked.
However, this is a young man who has competed at a very high level and has continued to prove that he’s going to try to get back on the field whenever he deals with an injury. The Commanders can really use him as they take on a Giants team that’s been one of the best in the NFC East, as they sit in first place at 3-1.
