The Athletics have been a team that has focused on its farm system over the years. Now, fans are seeing some of those players rise through the system and become foundational pieces.

Nick Kurtz made his MLB debut last season and was up there with the league’s best power hitters with his 36 home runs in 2025. Now, Leo De Vries is waiting in the wings to make a name for himself at this level.

And while the farm system is in a good place, the front office cannot stop working hard to continue to add exciting young pieces to the organization. With the draft lottery back in December, they have been given the eighth overall pick, and they will have loads of elite talent to choose from here.

A’s projected to take one of the top HS prospects in the 2026 MLB Draft

Last year, the A’s selected LHP James Arnold from Florida State University. He was highlighted as a high-floor prospect who could move quickly through the minors.

Now, they have a good opportunity to take one of the top high school prospects, and that is what Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter believes they will do, drafting LHP Gio Rojas from Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida.

“Rojas has an extremely projectable 6’4″, 190-pound frame and better present polish than most prep arms with three quality pitches, plus command and clean mechanics. He turns 19 years old before draft day, which gives him leverage in negotiations since he’ll be draft-eligible as a sophomore if he honors his commitment to Miami, but that won’t be a factor if he’s a top-10 pick.”

Rojas is projected as the top prep arm in the draft class. He has all the makings to be a frontline starter in the big leagues, and could be an excellent fit for the team that is moving to Las Vegas soon.
