The Green Bay Packers and Jacksonville Jaguars both have needs at cornerback, which could lead to a battle between the two teams over the same free agents.

The Packers signed Nate Hobbs in free agency last offseason and that signing has not come close to panning out thus far. Adding to that, Green Bay could use more competition at the position overall.

As for Jacksonville, the team has a total of four cornerbacks set to hit free agency, so the Jags could be looking for new starters and more depth on the open market.

Knowing all that, On SI’s John Shipley predicts Jaguars pending free-agent cornerback Montaric Brown will land either in Green Bay or Jacksonville.

Zone coverage-based defenses will likely be incredibly high on Jaguars cornerback Montaric Brown. A true success story after being a late Day 3 pick in 2022, Brown was a strong starter for the Jaguars a year ago and looks poised to reach even bigger highs moving forward.

A team like the Green Bay Packers with a need at cornerback makes sense. They are not normally very active in free agency, but Brown could count as a true swing from them. He is the one player on this list I think makes good sense to return to Jacksonville, though.

The 26-year-old had a career year in 2025 after posting personal bests in completion rate allowed (55.9%) and passer rating when targeted (74.3).

Brown also posted a Pro Football Focus grade of 75.5 that ranked 13th among cornerbacks.

The only downside of Brown is he doesn’t offer much versatility, as the vast majority of his career snaps have come on the outside.

Spotrac projects Brown will land a three-year, $27.6 million deal in free agency, which sounds about right after the impressive season he just had.

While neither the Jaguars nor the Packers have a great financial situation, we could definitely see them finding a way to squeeze Brown in given their respective needs at cornerback.

We suspect he’s got a better chance of returning to Jacksonville than he does departing for the Packers, but we certainly wouldn’t rule Green Bay out.
