New York Yankees star Cody Bellinger pulled up his back and is slated to miss a couple of games before the week runs out. He already missed Saturday’s 5-1 win against the Toronto Blue Jays and is already ruled out for the upcoming Spring Training game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.
At the moment, Bellinger’s next game action could come Tuesday when the Yankees face the Boston Red Sox. Since Monday is already off, it would be enough time for the outfielder to recover from what appears to be a minor back issue.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone shared an update on his injury, saying he’ll miss a couple of days.
“He’ll probably be, I’m guessing, a couple days,” Boone said. “He was quite a bit better today. Trainers aren’t too concerned about it. And this is something that crops up on him every now and then, usually sometime in spring or early in the year.”
In Bellinger’s absence, the left field was guarded by Marco Luciano as Trent Grisham started in centerfield and Aaron Judge took the other corner of the outfield. Moreover, outfielders Kenedy Corona, Nicholas Torres and Spencer Jones also got some game time on Saturday.

Caution by Yankees concerning Cody Bellinger’s back injury
If anything, Cody Bellinger has likely been sidelined because of the Yankees’ cautious approach. The regular season is still a month away, and there’s no reason for them to make Bellinger play when they know the same issue caused him to miss two games in April last year.
Bellinger has returned to the Yankees on a new five-year, $162.5 million contract. There are opt-outs in place after the second and third year. With Aaron Judge, Bellinger is the next big player on the Yankees as far as offense is concerned.
While they may be running the same squad, they expect better results in 2026.
