Shane Wright’s name is everywhere in NHL trade rumors.

It’s a fascinating path that it seems the Seattle Kraken are about to embark upon.

Wright is still young, just 22, and has shown a knack for goal.

It sounds like, though, that Wright may get moved for a more established player instead.

The Kraken, still in their fledgling stages as a franchise, will be taking at least a bit of a risk in potentially moving on from Wright.

The trade deadline is March 6, so it’s less than a week until Seattle fans know the scoop for sure.

“The Kraken are seemingly searching for a splashy add to their top-six forward group and potentially willing to sacrifice Wright to do so, Pagnotta reported on The DFO Rundown last month,” writes Matt Larkin of Daily Faceoff. “Wright would be a fascinating buy; he still has another year left at his entry-level AAV after this one, and he has proven to be an efficient scorer in his (extremely) limited opportunities, averaging 19 goals per 82 games for his career despite playing only 13:42 per night.”

Larkin, in that write-up, lists Wright in his tier one of players. In this case, that means he views him among the group most likely to be traded before the deadline.

A team acquiring Wright wouldn’t necessarily have to be a contender. It could be someone retooling for next season and hoping to get a little younger.

Wright is unlike most other players who are available in trade rumors. That could make him a fascinating case study in the next handful of days.
