Colorado will have to prepare for life in an A.P. era in Boulder. After Prime. At least that’s according to the latest projection by The Athletic’s Ralph Russo.
The longtime writer compiled a list of where coaches will be in 2030 and Sanders won’t be in Colorado. However, Russo dropped a clear message about the current state of the Buffs.
“Good luck forecasting when and how Sanders’ time in Boulder will end,” Russo wrote.
So who will be Colorado’s next coach? Kenny Guiton, who is currently Wisconsin quarterbacks coach. Russo cited the relationship between all parties involved as a factor. While this seems a bit far-fetched right now, the logic seems to make sense.
“Colorado has a new AD in Fernando Lovo, who has strong ties to Urban Meyer. Guiton, who played for Meyer at Ohio State, is a well-thought-of young coach,” Russo added.

As for Sanders, his tenure at Colorado hit a new low in 2025 with a 3-9 record. After going 9-4 in the previous season, which featured the breakout Heisman season for Travis Hunter, the step back felt odd and put many things into perspective.
What’s in store for Coach Prime in 2026? Nobody really knows at this point. A brand-new roster with over 40 players coming in with new coordinators on both sides of the ball.

There might be another transition year coming for Sanders. Not to say the incoming talent isn’t ready to fight, but if we’ve learned anything from constructing a team out of the transfer portal year after year, it rarely works to perfection.
