Ryan Garcia vs. Mario Barrios is on February 21 from inside the T-Mobile Arena. The main card starts at 8 p.m. ET and the main event should begin around 11 p.m. ET, depending on how long the undercard fights last.
Barrios (29-2-2) beat Yordenis Ugas for interim gold and became the full-time champion after Terence Crawford was named “champion in recess.” Since becoming champion, Barrios has gone 0-0-2 against Abel Ramos and Manny Pacquiao, the latter coming out of retirement for this fight.
Despite not earning a win since early 2024, Barrios remains champion. He attempts to prove he’s worthy of holding gold on fight night.
“They said that he’s [Ryan Garcia] focused, that we’re going to get a Ryan that’s 100%, and that makes me happy to hear. So when I whoop his a– on February 21 there will be no excuses,” Barrios said.
Garcia (24-2) gets another crack at gold. He couldn’t win the WBC title against Devin Haney when he missed weight, and got dropped against Rolando Romero when competing for the WBA belt.
The 27-year-old is one of boxing’s biggest draws. His popularity and antics have resulted in unfavorable outcomes. Garcia promises to be focused on fight night.
“In order to be a great quarterback like Tom Brady, you have to forget what happened and focus on the next play. I have to go out and go grab that title. I’m hungry, I’m excited, and I’m ready to put on a show,” Garcia said.
