Chelsea are set to imminently sign Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens from Brighton & Hove Albion and Borussia Dortmund, respectively.

The Blues have spent over £100m on these two signings alone and are clearly excited about their potential.

What’s more, Enzo Maresca is set to sell some of his existing stars in order to make room for these two youngsters, and that is a testament to their talent.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea believe that the duo can hit the ground running when the next Premier League season kicks off in August.

Discussing why Chelsea have decided to sign Pedro and Gittens on his podcast, Romano said: “They believe they are ready to make an impact immediately and that’s really important.”

“So it’s not just the potential, it’s also the impact that they can make immediately for the squad this season with Champions League football and obviously Premier League and all the other competitions.”

“But it’s also important to mention that Chelsea believe that these players have big room for improvement.”

Pedro is already an established Premier League player, making just under 90 appearances in the English top flight.

Gittens, on the other hand, is yet to play in the Premier League, so it may take him a bit longer to adapt at Chelsea.

The Blues’ first game of the season is against Crystal Palace at home. It is certainly not the worst fixture for Pedro and Gittens to make their debuts in.

Going by what Romano has said, it’s easy to see that there will be the pressure of expectation on both Gittens and Pedro when they move to Stamford Bridge, and it’ll be interesting to see how they manage that in the upcoming season.
