Tyler Herro has blossomed into a star over his seven years as a member of the Miami Heat, but is he overrated?
Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report seems to think so, as he recently included Herro in a list of the NBA’s most overrated players this season.
Tyler Herro named one of the most overrated players in NBA
While Herro is a potent scorer, his one-dimensional nature and inconsistent availability landed him on the list.
“Is it possible to be an All-Star and Sixth Man of the Year before turning 26 and still be overrated? In Tyler Herro’s case, yes. … Herro isn’t a max-caliber player or anywhere close to it. Miami made it to the Finals in 2023 after Herro broke his hand in Game 1 of the playoffs. The team looked far better without him, which should have been a sign,” Swartz wrote.
“… Having reached 70 games in a season once in his seven-year career (including just 11 so far this season), Herro has become overrated.”
In order for someone to be “overrated,” it means they have to be viewed highly by some large chunk of the population, and I’m not sure that’s the case with Herro.
By and large, people know what he is – an impactful scorer who doesn’t bring much else to the floor. That type of player can be very valuable, but not as a top option on a contending team.
So, if you view Herro as a true “star” than yes, he’s probably overrated. He’s more correctly viewed as a high-end role player miscast as a star in Miami.
