23XI Racing is far younger than many other Cup Series heavyweights. That hasn’t stopped the team from competing for titles as of late.

Helmed by Michael Jordan, Denny Hamlin and Curtis Polk, 23XI Racing has loudly proclaimed itself as one of NASCAR’s finest organizations. Headlined by Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace, 23XI’s Toyotas have traipsed into victory lane more times than most since its 2021 inception.

It added an especially notable gem to its collection in 2026, with Reddick racing to the checkered flag at the Daytona 500.

With that, here’s what you need to know about 23XI Racing, the Jordan-led racing team that figures to contend for Cup Series crowns for years to come.

Who is Michael Jordan’s NASCAR team?

Jordan co-owns 23XI Racing, three-car organization that boasts Wallace, Reddick and Riley Herbst as its full-time Cup Series drivers.

The brainchild of Jordan and co-owners Denny Hamlin and Curtis Polk, 23XI debuted in 2021, with Jordan and Hamlin enlisting Wallace — the field’s only Black driver — to man its cockpit. Wallace was outfitted in the No. 23 car, a reference to Jordan’s famous number. Reddick and Herbst also sport numbers significant to Jordan, with the former rocking No. 45 (the number Jordan wore upon his return to the NBA) and the latter draped in a No. 35 paint scheme — a reference to Jordan’s minor league career.

Under Jordan and Hamlin’s stewardship, 23XI Racing has become one of NASCAR’s finest sides. Wallace and Reddick are perennial postseason contenders, having combined to capture nine wins under the 23XI banner. Reddick was the regular-season champion in 2024 and earned a spot in that year’s Championship 4.

What is 23XI?

23XI refers to the two numbers that Jordan and Hamlin made famous throughout their respective playing careers: 23 and 11.

Who is Tyler Reddick?

Reddick drives the No. 45 car for 23XI Racing. He is one of the Cup Series’ finest talents, recording six wins since joining 23XI ahead of the 2023 season.

A Corning, Calif. native, Reddick got his start in Outlaw Karts. He climbed through the lower levels of racing before making his Truck Series debut in 2013.

Reddick captured two Auto Parts Series titles before making his Cup Series debut in 2019. He picked up three wins during the 2022 season, establishing himself as one of the Cup Series’ brightest lights.

All told, Reddick has nine Cup Series wins in his career. That total is expected to grow as the years go on.

Michael Jordan NASCAR lawsuit

In Oct. 2024, 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports filed a lawsuit against NASCAR in Oct. 2024 alleging that the league’s CEO, Jim France and the France family, violated antitrust laws. Among the accusations leveled at NASCAR by 23XI and Front Row leadership were the following:

  • Buying a majority of the premier racetracks that are exclusive to NASCAR races;
  • Imposing exclusivity deals on NASCAR-sanctioned racetracks;
  • Acquiring Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA), the only notable stock car racing series competitor;
  • Preventing teams from participating in any other stock car races, while also retaining ownership over Next Gen parts and cars; and
  • Forcing teams to buy their parts from single-source suppliers chosen by NASCAR.

23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports were the only Cup Series sides who opted out of signing a new charter agreement with NASCAR by a Sept. 2024 deadline.

“No other major professional sport in North America is run by a single family that enriches themselves through these kinds of unchecked monopolistic practice,” said the statement from 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports. The same statement later referred to the France family as “bullies.”

The lawsuit claimed that NASCAR pressured some of the remaining 13 teams to sign the contract. NASCAR launched a countersuit against 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports in late 2025, accusing the teams of “agreeing to a scheme to pressure NASCAR to accept their collusive terms, including by engaging in media campaigns, interfering with NASCAR’s broadcast agreement negotiations, threatening boycotts of NASCAR events and engaging in a group boycott of a NASCAR Team Owner Council Meeting”, according to legal documents related to the case.

The case was settled in Dec. 2025.
