The Houston Astros have been putting together a solid roster this offseason, and while there’s still more work to do, namely with the infield logjam, their team looks ready to contend once again this upcoming season.
As camp begins, the Astros are not done making roster moves, and recently, they made one that’s a very fun addition to their depth chart.
According to Chandler Rome of The Athletic, the Astros have signed the son of Hall of Fame catcher Craig Biggio, Cavan Biggio, to a free agent contract. Biggio is back in Houston, except this time, it’s the son of the Hall of Famer.

“The Astros have signed Cavan Biggio to a minor-league deal with an invitation to major-league camp,” Rome reports.
This is a very fun addition for the Astros. Cavan Biggio has been in the Major Leagues for seven seasons, most recently playing 37 games for the Kansas City Royals in 2025, posting -0.2 bWAR with a .543 OPS and 55 OPS+.
The 30-year-old versatile infielder/outsider spent the majority of his MLB career with the Toronto Blue Jays, where he put up a solid 7.4 bWAR in six seasons with a .725 OPS.
His first two years in the league, in 2019 and 2020, were his best in the Majors. He posted a .793 OPS and .807 OPS in those seasons, putting up 3.1 and 2.2 bWAR, respectively.

He’s struggled in the years since, and in 2024, he spent time with the Blue Jays (44 games), the Los Angeles Dodgers (30 games), and the Atlanta Braves (4 games) before he left for the Royals in 2025.
Now, Biggio is joining the team where his father, Craig Biggio, played all 20 seasons of his incredible Hall of Fame career. For the first time in nearly 20 years, Biggio is back in Houston.
While he might not be as good as his father, if nothing else, this is a very fun storyline to follow for the 2026 Spring Training in Houston. Biggio is back with the Astros, and he’s hoping to make the Major League roster with a good Spring Training.
