Dennis Schroder is the modern-day NBA journeyman, as he has now played for 11 teams. Over the past year, he was a solid player for the Sacramento Kings, but that did not work out. He and Keon Ellis ended up getting traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, which is a positive move for both players.

As a veteran, Schroder wants to be part of a successful team. In international basketball, he is a fantastic star player, but he is more of a backup point guard in the NBA. Now, he is glad to be playing for the Cavs, where he can compete for a championship.

Schroder is ready to contribute to a contender with the Cavaliers

Over the years, Schroder has been a steady presence as a point guard. He is a solid playmaker and a reliable scorer when needed. Unfortunately, he is good enough to always be a trade piece, which is a bit of a thankless job because he gets sent all over the country.

Now that he is with the Cavaliers, Schroder could have found a new home. He is under a three-year contract he signed with the Kings in July 2025. This could mean he will be staying in Cleveland for the next three seasons, which would be a welcome change for the 32-year-old guard.

Schroder is glad to be playing in Cleveland now, as he is with a contender again. This has not happened in a long time, as he has bounced between teams in the postseason without a chance of winning a title or teams on the fringe of the postseason.

“At the end of the day, there are meaningful basketball games. I played a couple of them already in my career, just try to do the winning plays… I think we’ve got high-character guys in this locker room, but if we turn it up there, I think on the defensive side of the ball, especially, I think we can do a lot of big things here. I’m looking forward to that,” Schroder said in a lengthy presser after the Cavs’ win against the Wizards.

As long as he feels comfortable with the Cavaliers, they are in the right place. Moving forward, they will continue to live up to their status as contenders from before the season. They are already improving enough to compete for the fourth seed, and Schroder will want to play a big role.
