All signs continue to point to the Arizona Cardinals cutting ties with quarterback Kyler Murray this offseason.

According to Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom, the Cardinals plan to move Murray this offseason, although many around the league rightly believe the Cardinals will have to eat “a large portion of his contract” to make a deal happen.

“Former first-overall pick Kyler Murray is on the outs with the Arizona Cardinals, with plans to move him off the roster in 2026 despite a new offensive head coach. Teams around the league predict Arizona will have to eat a large portion of his contract to facilitate a trade,” La Canfora reported.

“We hear they are going with (Jacoby) Brissett and want to get Kyler out of there,” an unnamed personnel executive told La Canfora.

This is the second time in recent days that Murray has been named in a trade rumor, with the other time coming from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who reported that Arizona will indeed explore trading the former No. 1 overall pick this offseason.

With Murray clearly available, we could see the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings having interest.

The Vikings adding a veteran behind J.J. McCarthy is a foregone conclusion at this point. McCarthy simply wasn’t good enough in 2025 to cement himself as the long-term starter, and he has injury concerns.

But it remains to be seen how big the Vikings will go. We’d suspect they’re open to replacing McCarthy entirely, especially after ESPN’s Kevin Seifert reported that “all bets are off” when it comes to his future in Minnesota.

A trade for Murray would qualify as a big move and would likely be done with the intention of replacing McCarthy completely rather than just adding some competition and an insurance policy.

And, perhaps McCarthy would be included in such a trade with Arizona, a team that doesn’t have any semblance of hope for the future under center.

Any interest the Steelers have in Murray would be based on what happens with Aaron Rogers, who has yet to make an official decision.

If Rodgers doesn’t come back, the Steelers will be left with two lackluster starting options in Will Howard and Mason Rudolph.

The hire of Mike McCarthy suggests Pittsburgh isn’t hitting the reset button in 2026, so acquiring a quick fix to play quarterback remains a real possibility if Rodgers retires or decides to play elsewhere.
