Robert Thomas is a talented center, and the St. Louis Blues know that.

They’re trying to use that fact to land a massive trade return for the star involved in plenty of rumors.

But there’s a chance the Blues want too much.

According to NHL insider Nick Kypreos, the Blues are seeking the equivalent of three top-15 picks for Thomas in either actual draft picks or prospects.

That’s a lot for almost any player. It also requires an acquiring team to actually have assets of that level, and with contenders usually picking in the back half of the draft, it’s not always a given.

Thomas is a 26-year-old center from Aurora, Ontario. The Blues took him No. 20 overall in the 2017 NHL Draft.

This season, Thomas has played in 42 games and tallied 11 goals with 22 assists.

Thomas has played all eight of his NHL seasons for the Blues, adding up to 508 games.

In his career, Thomas has 118 goals and 311 assists.

His best two seasons were 2023-24 and 2024-25. He put up 86 points (26 goals, 60 assists) and then 81 points (21 goals, 60 assists) in those two campaigns.

Thomas is never going to be a huge goalscorer, but he can set up his teammates, and he’d likely be beloved on a new team for his ability to make scoring easier for others.

Whether the Blues find what they’re looking for or soften their ask could determine if Thomas actually ends up somewhere new.
