The Baltimore Orioles are coming off a disappointing season after winning 100 games the year before and reaching the playoffs with a talented young core. Following that step back, Baltimore entered the offseason aggressively, which was expected after the organization made a managerial change.
“The Orioles’ search for a new manager is over. Baltimore has hired Cleveland associate manager Craig Albernaz to become its skipper, the club announced Monday,” MLB.com’s Jake Rill wrote.
The Orioles have made several notable additions this offseason, signing big names such as Pete Alonso, Ryan Helsley, Zach Eflin, and Leody Tavares. Baltimore has also remained active on the trade market, recently acquiring Chicago White Sox infielder Bryan Ramos.
“The Orioles have acquired infielder Bryan Ramos from the White Sox, according to reporter Francys Romero. Baltimore has officially announced the trade, and the Sox will get cash considerations in return. To open up a 40-man spot for Ramos, the Orioles designated Weston Wilson for assignment,” MLB Trade Rumors’ Mark Polishuk wrote.
While the trade could cap off a busy offseason, FanSided’s Zachary Rotman believes the Orioles could still make one final splash by signing Framber Valdez.
“There’s a reason the Baltimore Orioles have been considered favorites to sign Valdez all offseason: They have everything he could want. Their GM is Mike Elias, a former scout for the Houston Astros when Valdez signed with the organization back in 2015. They’re much-improved after adding guys like Pete Alonso, Taylor Ward and Ryan Helsley earlier this offseason to an already talented group. They also have a clear need for an innings-eater like Valdez based on how their rotation performed in 2025,” Rotman wrote.
The Orioles play in arguably the toughest division in baseball, competing with the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays. Adding reliable starting pitching is critical, which is why Valdez remains a major free-agent target.
Baltimore may need to do whatever it takes to bring Valdez to Camden Yards. He checks every box as a starter — a left-hander, a proven innings-eater, and a World Series champion whose experience could have a significant impact on a young roster.
