You can’t say the Philadelphia Eagles didn’t do their due diligence throughout their search for a new offensive coordinator. For two weeks, it seemed like any quarterback coach, offensive coordinator, or former head coach landed an interview with the team.
The former star NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson poked fun at the fact that he didn’t get an opportunity to state his case for the job.
“I’m gonna be honest with you, I like the hiring, but I don’t like the fact that I didn’t get an opportunity to interview for the offensive coordinator job for the Eagles,” Johnson said on Night Cap.
The Eagles interviewed some of the biggest names on the market. Just a handful of candidates had second interviews, and the young quarterbacks coach out of Green Bay, Sean Mannion, was offered the job. It was a promotion he accepted.

In all seriousness, Johnson doesn’t have the job for himself, but he claims to know what the Eagles need, and it’s simple.
“What they need is creativity,” said the former wideout. “Where a coach is coming from under the umbrella tree with Kubiak and Sean McVay, I think it can be good. What the offense needs in Philadelphia is a little bit of creativity. They’re too predictable. We talk about it all the time, knowing what routes are being run based on receivers’ alignment. No creativity at all. I think if he’s able to bring some of that and open up what Jalen Hurts is already able to do and add something else to his game, I think they’re going to be alright.”
Kevin Patullo’s offense underperformed as the Eagles attempted to make a run at a Super Bowl repeat. They were 24th in total offense and 19th in scoring. The passing game was in the bottom 10, and the running game went from dominant to mediocre.
With Mannion entering the picture carrying zero seasons of play-calling experience, the Eagles are taking a major gamble on the first-year coordinator. As long as he’s fearless with his playbook, Mannion could find plenty of success with Johnson’s advice—stay creative in 2026.
