Aaron Rodgers has a supporter of his taking over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Mike McCarthy, who won a Super Bowl with Rodgers in Green Bay, is the Steelers’ new head coach in place of Mike Tomlin.

That makes a Rodgers return to Pittsburgh seem much more likely.

Despite that, though, Rodgers could still choose to retire. And in a new article, CBS Sports writer Zachary Perales states that he believes Rodgers will indeed choose retirement over signing with someone in free agency.

Maybe even more interestingly, Perales points out the Minnesota Vikings as an alternative if Rodgers chooses to keep playing but doesn’t want the Steelers.

Last offseason, Rodgers seemed interested in the Vikings, but they chose to go with J.J. McCarthy. That didn’t go as well as they would’ve wanted.

“If Rodgers does surprisingly stick around, it will be interesting to see who shows interest in a 42-year-old quarterback who has been either injured or below average the last three years,” Perales writes. “Rodgers still takes care of the ball well, but he isn’t mobile, nor does he stand strong in the pocket and deliver downfield like he used to.”

Rodgers will turn 43 before next season is over, but he did just go to the playoffs.

The Vikings, in particular, could use a guy like Rodgers. They have such a talented roster that they don’t need a superstar at QB. They just need someone who is better than a zero.

The risk is that Rodgers regresses as he ages, but he’s intelligent enough on the field to probably make up for any year-to-year physical decline.

This will certainly be one of the most tracked stories of the offseason.
