You know it’s a crazy Los Angeles Lakers record when it isn’t held by Kobe Bryant, or Shaquille O’Neal, or Magic Johnson, or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, or Jerry West, or Elgin Baylor.
The Lakers record that Luka Doncic broke on Monday night was held by George Mikan.
Yes, the big center who began his career playing for the Minneapolis Lakers.
The record? Fastest player to 2,000 points in a Lakers uniform.
Mikan did it in 72 games.
Doncic just did it in his 65th game in the purple and gold.
Bro really hit 2,000 points in the Purple and Gold in only 65 games, Luka is literally breaking all-time Laker records in real time pic.twitter.com/OohNQWVftl

Doncic obviously benefited here from coming to the Lakers in his absolute prime.
The Dallas Mavericks stunned the NBA by trading Doncic to the Lakers in February 2025 for a package helmed by Anthony Davis.
The generational superstar turned into the future (and the present) of the Lakers.
He has shone brightly since joining L.A., maintaining his incredible mix of scoring and playmaking and proving that he didn’t deserve to be discarded in the way that the Mavs got rid of him.
And now, he broke a record held by Mikan past all those other all-time greats.
That’s absolutely special.
