  • Broncos undrafted free agent Marques Cox is vying for a spot on the offensive line

The Denver Broncos are working on building one of the NFL’s best offensive lines, something that can be a key ingredient in winning a Super Bowl.

The Broncos have a strong starting five and good depth around them, but the team is currently working on building depth beyond that, including the practice squad.

Following this year’s draft, the Broncos signed four offensive linemen as undrafted free agents. One of those players was Marques Cox. How does he fit in with this year’s team?

Denver Broncos Undrafted Rookie Spotlight

Name: Marques Cox
Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 312
Position: Tackle
School: Kentucky

Born in Peoria, Illinois, Cox began his college career at Northern Illinois before transferring to Kentucky ahead of the 2023 season. He started in all 25 games possible for the Wildcats, performing well enough there to earn a contract with the Broncos this spring.

As you can surmise from reading the scouting report put together by Lance Zierlein of NFL.com, Cox is a classic project prospect. The Broncos will look to tap into his athletic ability and see if that can be combined with his impressive size to build an NFL offensive lineman.

The coaching staff will be tasked with bringing the most out of Cox, which could likely take more than one training camp to completely tap into.

Chances of making final 53-man roster (1-10 scale): 1

Cox brings 59 career starts in college to the NFL, which is a good base to begin with, but he is on a depth chart that features a ton of talent.

The Broncos have their starting offensive line (Garett Bolles, Ben Powers, Luke Wattenberg, Quinn Meinerz and Mike McGlinchey) and behind them, solid role players in Matt Peart, Alex Palczewski and Calvin Throckmorton. Frank Crum was also an impressive prospect last summer and Nick Gargiulo was drafted by the team.

That said, there is still a great chance that one of the undrafted players makes this year’s roster. Xavier Truss likely has a better chance to make the team as a swing tackle than Cox, based on what they each displayed in college, but then there is Joe Michalski and Clay Webb, who are both still on the roster as well. Webb, who has yet to be profiled in the Undrafted Spotlight, is a trendy pick to make this year’s team.

That leads to long odds for Cox, who will almost certainly be battling for a spot on the practice squad as his best-case scenario.
