Cooper Flagg’s path to the NBA began in high school, when the top recruit moved from Maine to Florida to further pursue his basketball dreams.
Flagg enrolled in Montverde Academy as a sophomore, where he spent three years before attending college at Duke. While at Montverde, Flagg teamed up with several other basketball players to form a fearsome high school team that included many prospects in the 2025 draft.
Dubbed the “Montverde 6,” there were specifically six players from that team that all played their freshman seasons in college last year. Of those six, four are now entering the NBA. Here’s a breakdown of the 2023-24 Montverde team and the players who will soon be in the pros.

Montverde basketball record 2024
The Montverde Academy played a national schedule, taking on some of the best high school teams across the country. During its 2023-34 season, Montverde produced a 33-0 record.Â

Cooper Flagg
The projected No. 1 overall pick in the draft, Flagg is the best of the bunch. The Duke product was the No. 1 overall recruit out of Montverde Academy and lived up to the hype during his only collegiate season with the Blue Devils.
In Flagg’s lone season at Duke, he averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game. He also shot over 48 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from three-point range, showing off his array of skills which have helped him become the consensus top prospect in this year’s draft,
Derik Queen
Next up is Queen, who starred at Maryland last year and is expected to be a lottery pick on draft night. The center was a top-10 recruit out of Montverde, and he had a strong season in College Park, leading the Terrapins to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament.
Queen’s season produced many highlights, which included a buzzer-beater to defeat Colorado State in the Round of 32.

During the season, Queen totaled 16.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. However, while he shot 52.6 percent from the field, he only shot 20 percent from deep, an area where he needs to improve at the next level.
Liam McNeeley
McNeeley was another top-10 recruit out of Montverde, but he chose to attend UConn for his only collegiate campaign. The forward’s freshman season wasn’t as successful as his former teammates, but he still put together a solid year that allowed him to enter the NBA Draft.
Last year, McNeeley averaged a team-high 14.5 points per game, which led the team, along with 6.0 rebounds per game. However, he is projected to be drafted closer to the late first round, a little lower than expected when the season began.

Asa Newell
Newell was the first member of the group ranked outside the top 10, as he was the No. 13 recruit in the country according to ESPN. The power forward attended Georgia and was the best player on the team, leading the Bulldogs in both points and rebounds per game.
Newell’s season set the forward up as a likely mid-first-round pick who could find his way into the lottery.

‘Montverde 6’ players in college
There are two members of the “Montverde 6” still in college: Robert Wright III and Curtis Givens. Wright played last year at Baylor, and Givens at LSU, but both transferred after the season, with Wright going to BYU and Givens to Memphis.
