  • Astros predicted to land award winning star as Jeremy Pena extension questions loom

Entering the 2025 MLB draft, there isn’t a team in Major League Baseball that needs to improve its farm system as much as the Houston Astros.

The Astros, who now find themselves in a strange position at the big league level because of the lack of talent in their farm system in recent years, truly can’t let another draft go without landing big-time talents.

Holding the 21st overall pick, the Astros will be in a position to add an elite talent, and there happens to be a potential award-winning player available at that spot.

Just Baseball recently predicted them to land one in the form of Wehiwa Aloy, a shortstop from the University of Arkansas who recently won the Golden Spikes Award.

“Aloy likely hears his name called higher than this, which leaves the Astros looking for a college arm with quality fastball characteristics.

“However, Aloy’s profile shares some similarities to Brice Matthews. It’s a huge power bat from the right side with a better glove at the “six.” This is a fit that makes too much sense,” they wrote.

Aloy was incredible during his final season at Arkansas, proving to be the top college player in the country.

Starting his career at Sacramento State, he proved to be as good as advertised during his three years in college.

He’s coming off a season where he hit .350 with 21 home runs, 68 RBIs, and 93 hits. Posting a 1.107 OPS, it was easy to see why Aloy won the Golden Spikes Award.

Aloy also mashed last summer in the Cape Cod League, the top summer league in the country for college baseball. He hit .309 with eight home runs in 81 at-bats.
