The Ole Miss Rebels have done it. Lane Kiffin’s Rebels secured a milestone victory, defeating the Florida Gators 34-24 in Oxford, sparking renewed talk of the program’s ascent into blue blood territory.
The Rebels are in the College Football Playoff rankings as of now, and their fans are happier than ever.
Lane Kiffin reflects on new era at Ole Miss.
After an amazing season so far, Ole Miss stands firmly among the nation’s best both at the AP poll and in the College Football Playoff rankings, holding a 10-1 record and sitting at No. 7 in the College Football Playoff rankings.
With the win, Ole Miss remained unbeaten at home (8-0) for the season and strengthened its position for a possible College Football Playoff spot. Earlier this week, rumors circulated about Kiffin possibly leaving the program; however, both he and the fanbase, who chanted “We want Lane” following the victory, have dispelled those concerns.
When asked if Ole Miss should now be considered a blue blood program, head coach Lane Kiffin was emphatic in praise for his team: “They answered the call today and they have in big games for us … I think we’re in the ‘good ol’ days’ right now.”
Ole Miss remains firmly in the CFP picture after Saturday’s win, currently ranked No. 7 in the latest committee poll with a 10-1 record. Projections suggest the Rebels could host a first-round game if they maintain their ranking, keeping their national championship hopes alive as the postseason approaches.
