LeBron James must’ve been lonely.
Until Friday night, the King was the only player in NBA history in the club for 25,000 points and 10,000 assists.
He’s no longer alone.
Russell Westbrook, now playing for the Sacramento Kings, joined LBJ in that club.
Russ needed his 10,000th assist, which he got Friday against the Minnesota Timberwolves on a lime green court during NBA Cup action.
Westbrook was moved into the starting lineup for this game by the Kings in place of Dennis Schroeder, and that helped in the quest for a bit of history.
It’s just one more stat in a career full of remarkable stats for Westbrook.
Earlier this season, he broke Jason Kidd’s record for most rebounds ever by a guard. In that postgame press conference, before Russ was even informed of the record, he was proclaiming that he was the best rebounding guard ever. He’s not wrong.
Westbrook was a triple-double machine in his Oklahoma City Thunder days, and even now, he finds a way to crank one out every now and again.
The Kings are a team full of veterans, and Westbrook has a longer, better resume than all of them.
He’ll go down in history in many ways. And now he’s part of a club with LeBron that no one else is a part of.
