A season ago, Austin Vandegrift and Austin Westlake both played for a state championship.

Friday night, one of those schools won’t be going back to Arlington’s AT&T Stadium and will be out after the opening round of the Texas University Interscholastic League 6A Division II playoffs. The Vipers take on the Chaparrals at Austin’s Monroe Stadium.

Vandegrift, last season’s 6A DII state champion, comes in at 8-2, while Westlake – which played for the 6A DI title a season ago – comes in at 7-3.
