The New York Giants profile as a team that won’t buy at the trade deadline, but the team could use more wide receiver help.

That’s because the season-ending injury to Malik Nabers has left the cupboard bare for quarterback Jaxson Dart, which is bad news for his development. Because of that injury, the Giants are rumored to be looking for a wideout.

A dream addition would be Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, who wasn’t initially expected to be available before the team reportedly softened its stance a bit in the wake of parting ways with general manager Chris Grier.

However, as CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones reports, Waddle is going to be very expensive, with the Dolphins looking for a first-round pick and more.

“The cover charge to have a conversation with interim GM Champ Kelly on Waddle is a first rounder and then some, which is actually being discussed in some buildings even if the asking price seems unlikely to be reached,” Jones reported.

Waddle would be a great addition and a massive upgrade for the Giants, and he’d be a multi-year solution because he’s under contract through 2028, so New York would have one of the better one-two punches in the NFL once Nabers returns.

But it’s hard to envision a Giants team that is in the midst of a rebuild giving up that kind of draft capital for a wide receiver, even one who can help the team for the long haul.

Other wide receivers expected to be available are the Las Vegas Raiders‘ Jakobi Meyers and the New Orleans Saints‘ Rashid Shaheed, although reports suggest asking prices for those players are high.

Chris Olave is another name to keep an eye on, but it appears he’s more likely to be extended than traded, and his price would be astronomical, also.

Unless asking prices come down drastically closer to the deadline, we would expect the Giants to stand pat and not add a wide receiver.
