As the NFL season passes the halfway mark, teams are trying to round out their rosters for a playoff push. This makes the NFL trade deadline a crucial date around the league, since teams cannot make deals when the date passes.

The trade deadline isn’t as exciting in the NFL as it is in some other leagues, but teams have been more active on the trade market in recent years. While stars rarely get traded in-season, teams can acquire important role players to help fill holes on the depth charts.

Here’s everything you need to know about the NFL trade deadline date and time.

What time is the NFL trade deadline today?

  • Date: Tuesday, November 4

The NFL trade deadline is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Once the clock passes that time, then teams are no longer able to submit trades to the league office.

Can NFL teams trade after the deadline?

In some cases, trades will be reported after the deadline passes at 4 p.m. ET, but those trades will still be allowed. That is because those trades were completed and submitted to the league office before the deadline, allowing them to be approved.

Due to the chaotic nature of the trade deadline, deals may not leak to reporters until after the deadline passes, but those deals were submitted and approved in time. Any deal that isn’t submitted to the league office by 4 p.m. ET will not be approved, and thus will not be reported as official.

Once the trade deadline passes, teams cannot make trades until the new league year begins in March.
