Colorado Buffaloes legend Shedeur Sanders’ recent speeding tickets have divided the football world, with his 101 MPH driving in a 60 MPH zone lending credence to the idea that his reportedly unserious attitude caused his fall to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft.
The Denver Post’s Sean Keeler, once an enemy of Shedeur’s father, Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders, shared his belief that the “Grown QB” won’t get another chance if he gets a third speeding ticket.
“Word to the wise, Shedeur Sanders: If you’re not careful, the next ticket you get will be a one-way flight out of Cleveland,” Keeler wrote.
“Fifth-round quarterbacks, by and large, aren’t legendary. They’re disposable.
“You can count on one hand the NFL QBs drafted in the fifth round who’ve had a serious impact in the NFL since the 1970 merger. Mark Brunell and Steve Grogan are at the head of the class. But it’s a small room.”
Former Browns coach Eric Mangini shared the opposite opinion: Shedeur’s tickets are barely a blip on the radar.
“I don’t love it from a fifth-round draft pick. I don’t love that it’s happened multiple times. I do think this is the first time he’s away from his dad and there’s going to be some growing pains. Would I sell my stock on it like you are? No, because of a couple speeding tickets, especially in the light of the problems the Browns quarterback room had had to deal with legally in the last few years. This is nothing,” Mangini said to Colin Cowherd on “The Herd.”
The true impact of these tickets won’t be seen until the preseason, when Sanders is either in the mix for the starting quarterback job or on the chopping block.
We’ll see if GM Andrew Berry is really about having four QBs on the Browns’ roster.
And if Sanders puts the nail in his career’s coffin by taking to the road recklessly one too many times.
