The Kansas City Chiefs‘ 37-20 curb-stomping of the Baltimore Ravens has put the entire NFL on notice, and they delivered a little message in the process – don’t discount the AFC champs.
In what was a devastating performance, that saw Lamar Jackson leave the game at the end of the third quarter with a hamstring injury, Patrick Mahomes and Co. did as they pleased. Oh, and having Xavier Worthy back made a huge difference.
Worthy would post five receptions for 83 yards along with two rushes for 38 yards to be the firestarter this offense needed, and the unit rolled all over Baltimore as a result.
And to say that having Worthy back made things easier for the Chiefs is an understatement.
“He’s just so explosive,” Mahomes said. “You just see when you get the football in his hands, it just makes the defenses have to adjust, and when they adjust, he gets so much attention on him, other guys can make plays happen. Just having him out there not only for his physical ability but for the morale of the room, was huge.”
Xavier Worthy plays huge roll in return vs. Ravens
We mentioned Worthy’s stats above, and his usage by head coach Andy Reid was superb, and as such, it allowed others to flourish.
Travis Kelce (48 yards), Marquise Brown (38 yards, one touchdown), Juju Smith-Schuster (36 yards, one touchdown), to get into the game more with Mahomes spreading the ball around to finish his day going 25 of 37 for 270 yards and four touchdowns in a performance that might just have the rest of the NFL a little nervous.
Oh, and Rashee Rice is still to come back into this offense as well.
Now at 2-2, the Chiefs, thanks to the Los Angeles Chargers‘ loss to the New York Giants, are a game out of first in the AFC West, although L.A. has the tie-breaker.
Still, maybe the Chiefs aren’t as “done” as many would have had you believe.
