The Atlanta Falcons have had a rough start on the offensive side of the ball. Coming into the season, the offense was seen as one of the more exciting aspects of the roster. However, it’s been a disappointing start, and offensive coordinator Zac Robinson has been taking heavy criticism.
“Offensive coordinator Zac Robinson’s play calling has been the subject of criticism among the fanbase—and Sunday only saw the noise grow louder. His play calling has been uninspired, predictable, and flat-out wasteful of Penix’s best trait—his rocket arm. Against one of the softest defenses in football, Atlanta never threatened downfield and repeatedly sputtered on third down. And with Atlanta consistently struggling to get the play in on time, fans’ perceptions of the second-year OC have seriously soured,” Blogging Dirty’s Jason Kendal wrote.
To add another layer to the story, on Sunday morning, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Robinson is a candidate for the head coaching vacancy at Oklahoma State.
“Falcons OC Zac Robinson, one of the best QBs to ever play for Mike Gundy, is expected to be on the very shortlist for Gundy’s former head coaching job at Oklahoma State, sources say,” Rapoport posted.
If Robinson were to land the job, he could find himself working two roles simultaneously—though there is precedent for managing that kind of transition.
“In this instance, if Robinson did get the job, he could hire a staff to recruit while working dual jobs until the NFL season ended. It would be a challenge, but not unprecedented. Former Patriots offensive coordinator Charlie Weiss did so when he was hired by Notre Dame during the 2004 season,” 680 The Fan wrote.

This development adds yet another twist to the ongoing Robinson saga in Atlanta. Many fans want him gone, but even if he accepts the Oklahoma State job, he’s expected to remain with the Falcons through the end of the season.
Robinson is set to coach from the sideline starting Sunday, which could spark a change. If not, the pressure will only grow. It will be interesting to see how he handles everything if he ends up taking the Oklahoma State job.
