When the Dallas Cowboys traded Micah Parsons to the Dallas Cowboys, the widespread reaction was that the Cowboys made a terrible mistake.
They had given up on a 26-year-old two-time All-Pro and shipped him to a heated conference rival. It was hard to find the silver lining for Dallas, even if they had gotten back two first-round picks and former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark.
Through three games, the trade has looked fairly lopsided, with the former Nittany Lion dominating in Green Bay while Dallas’ defense looks horrendous. Fox Sports analyst and Pro Football Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw defended the trade at the time, but the take has aged poorly.
Terry Bradshaw’s ‘Freezing Cold’ Micah Parsons Trade Take
Before Week 1 began, Bradshaw delivered a defense of Jerry Jones and the Cowboys on Fox.
“I think Jerry Jones did the right thing. I don’t blame him one bit,” Bradshaw said.
“I would have unloaded him, saves me a ton of money on the salary cap, number one, alright. He’s automatically getting two more first-round picks to go with the two he’s already got, and who’s to say that at the end of this year, if things don’t work out, somebody is going to get traded and pick up another one? Jerry Jones is sitting in the driver’s seat. I think it was a smart decision.”
While Bradshaw certainly has a point about the Cowboys picking up some premier draft capital, they aren’t a rebuilding team with an eye on the future.
Dak Prescott is 32 years old and not getting any younger. They have a top-of-the-line wide receiver in Ceedee Lamb and a lot of money invested in their offensive line and cornerbacks. Dallas should’ve been trying to go all-in while they could’ve even if that means allowing Parsons to play out his rookie contract with no extension.
When it’s all said and done, and the Cowboys use the draft capital they got when trading away their former Penn State star, we’ll finally be able to evaluate the losers and winners of the most shocking trades in recent NFL history.
But in the short term, the Packers certainly ended up on the better side of things.
