The Atlanta Falcons put up better statistics than the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
But the only stat that really, truly matters is the scoreboard. And that read Panthers 30, Falcons 0.
It’s not uncommon for a losing team to somehow end up with better yardage totals than a winning team. But it happens a lot less in a 30-0 game.
Here’s a list of stats the Falcons outdid the Panthers in:
- First downs (17 to 15)
- Third-down conversion rate (38.4% to 27.3%)
- Total yards (332 to 224)
- Yards per play (5.0 to 4.1)
- Passing yards (201 to 114)
- Rushing yards (131 to 110)
- Fewer penalties (3-23 for Atlanta, 6-55 for Carolina)

The Panthers did essentially miss out on one offensive possession when Chau Smith-Wade returned an interception 11 yards for a touchdown.
They also scored three times on field goals, with drives stalling out but still getting points.
The Falcons had two INTs thrown by Michael Penix Jr., and a fumble lost by Nathan Carter.

It was a big win for the Panthers, who improve to 1-2, while the Falcons fall to 1-2.
It was also just a really weird one.
