  • Diamondbacks predicted to trade Josh Naylor to surprise AL team for promising prospect

The Diamondbacks are barely treading water in the National League and it’s time to sink or swim.

Sitting at 36-36 and fourth in the NL West, Arizona is on the outside looking in at the playoff picture. They’ve also suffered season-ending injuries to key pitchers like Corbin Burnes and Justin Martinez.

It seems like the odds are stacked against the Diamondbacks, but they say they aren’t in the sellers market.

That hasn’t stopped reporters and fans from theorizing what could come next ahead of the July 31st trade deadline.

Jim Bowden of The Athletic wrote six trade proposals for the MLB and one of them included a big name on Arizona’s roster.

Diamondbacks trade Josh Naylor to the Mariners

If the Diamondbacks chose to move on from Naylor, it could set them up for the future.

Diamondbacks receive:

Mariners receive:

Naylor is a known commodity coming off of a season where he notched 31 home runs and 108 RBI’s with the Cleveland Guardians. He’s added nine homers and 49 RBI’s this season in Arizona.

Ford has less pro experience, but has been a force at the Triple A level. The catcher is hitting .315/.427/.425 this season in the minors.

The only problem? He’s stuck behind one of the best players at the position Cal Raleigh.

Naylor is an impending free agent but for now he could fill a gap in the Mariners lineup as a power hitter and first baseman.

On the other hand, the Diamondbacks could recoup an asset for the future in exchange for an expensive veteran they may not resign. Arizona would also commit to developing younger players and waving the white flag on what is likely a lost season.

Ford could be a bit pricey for a potential rental, but it could elevate the Mariners in the American League playoff race.

If more losses come for the Diamondbacks, this trade could be more of a possibility as the trade deadline approaches.
