Anyone remotely plugged in to NBA news knows the Los Angeles Lakers are in desperate need for a big man or two.
While they have one of the best duos in the league in LeBron James and Luka Doncic, coupled with a bright young coach in JJ Redick and solid role players in Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, and Dorian Finney-Smith, their hole at center after trading away Anthony Davis for Doncic was evident in the playoffs. The Lakers were manhandled inside by the Minnesota Timberwolves, and their offense became fairly predictable with no real post threat.
This is a need the team will need to address this off-season, and one Milwaukee Bucks free agent could be part of the solution.
According to ClutchPoints’ Anthony Irwin, Brook Lopez could be a player the Lakers target in free agency.
“Sources close to the team reiterated that the internal plan is to trade for their starting center,” Irwin reported “Sources say they’ve held conversations with other teams about Nic Claxton, Robert Williams, Walker Kessler and others – then, ideally, use the taxpayer midlevel on his backup – Brook Lopez and Clint Capela are the two names most often linked to the Lakers. It’s a solid plan that they’re considered likely to be able to execute.”
Lopez is 37-years-old and could be a good fit as a backup center to protect the rim and stretch the floor with Doncic and James. He previously played for the Lakers for one season in 2017-18 before signing with Milwaukee the following summer.
