High school football’s opening weekend in Tennessee finishes up on Saturday.
One game to watch on Saturday evening is Shelbyville Central taking on Tullahoma. It will be a rematch of a thriller that ended the regular season in 2024, with Shelbyville Central pulling off a 28-27 win.
It will also be the 98th time these teams have faced off, with the Golden Eagles leading the series, 49-45-3.

SECOND QUARTER
– Tullahoma got a huge break when there was a high snap on a Shelbyville punt attempt, and the punter was brought down inside the Golden Eagle 15. But moments later, a Wildcat pass gets intercepted with 1:44 left in the half.
– Shelbyville faces a fourth-and-goal at the 4 and go for it. They give it to Robert Bailey once more, but this time, he gets stood up by a host of Tullahoma defenders. Wildcats hold and still lead by 10 five minutes into the quarter.
– Another long run from Robert Bailey, covering 15 yards, and Shelbyville has a first-and-goal at the 9.
– Shelbyville is driving as tailback Robert Bailey breaks off a 29-yard run for a first down at the Tullahoma 24.
– TOUCHDOWN TULLAHOMA. On the opening play of the quarter, tailback Marvancy Johnson plows forward and in from 4 yards out. PAT is good, and the Wildcats are now up 10. That was an 11-play, 78-yard scoring drive. (Tullahoma, 10-0 | 11:57, 2nd)
– Tullahoma has a first-and-goal at the Shelbyville 4 as the second quarter gets under way.
FIRST QUARTER
– Tullahoma facing a fourth-and-7 at the Shelbyville 35 and the Wildcats go for it. They get it, as running back Marvancy Johnson darts 14 yards down to the 21.
– INTERCEPTION TULLAHOMA. Shelbyville faces a fourth down inside the Tullahoma 40 and decides to go for it. Golden Eagles attempt a long pass, but the Wildcats’ Sam Bobo comes up with the pick inside his own 10 with nearly four minutes left in the quarter.
– FIELD GOAL TULLAHOMA. Wildcats get inside the 25 before the drive stalls. But Chase Dodson comes out to kick a 40-yard field goal attempt, and he’s able to send one over the uprights. (Tullahoma, 3-0 | 5:42, 1st)
– A 23-yard pass play gets Tullahoma a first down in Shelbyville territory, near the Golden Eagle 40.
– Three-and-out for Shelbyville on the opening series, and the Golden Eagles will punt it away. Tullahoma starts its first offensive series near its own 35.
– Tullahoma wins the toss and defers. Shelbyville Central will receive the opening kick.

ABOUT SHELBYVILLE CENTRAL
The Golden Eagles are coming off a strong 2024 season, in which they finished 12-2 and reached the third round of the Class 5A playoffs. They also went a perfect 6-0 in 5A Region 5 competition. Last season, senior tailback Robert Bailey rushed for 1,860 yards and scored 23 TDs.
ABOUT TULLAHOMA
As for the Wildcats, they went 6-5 a season ago, falling to Nolensville in the first round of the 5A playoffs. Tullahoma also has a superb tailback to watch in senior Marvancy Johnson, who rushed for nearly 1,500 yards and scored 17 TDs in 2024.
