Coach Prime has set strict classroom rules as Buffaloes prepare for 2025 season
Deion Sanders isn’t just coaching football in Boulder. He’s shaping discipline off the field, too. Ahead of the fall semester, the Colorado head coach rolled out a classroom dress code for his players, and it’s getting attention far beyond the campus.
For Sanders, the student part of student-athlete matters just as much as the on-field performance. Slides, hoodies, and headphones are banned in class. Players aren’t allowed to sit in the back row. Even online, there are rules: shirts must be worn, and no “walking around” while logged into virtual lectures.
The message is clear, as Sanders wants accountability in every setting.
Building Respect Beyond the Field
Sanders has long stressed that image and effort matter. By requiring his players to sit up front and stay engaged, he’s making sure they show professors and classmates respect. That’s not just about football, it’s about life after Colorado.
Discipline That Wins Games
Last year, the Buffaloes jumped from a 4-8 record in 2023 to 9-4 in 2024, their best mark since 2016. The turnaround included a bowl appearance and Travis Hunter’s Heisman Trophy win. Sanders’ insistence on details off the field may be part of what fueled the on-field progress.
A Standard Set by Sanders
This will be Sanders’ first season without Shedeur Sanders at quarterback. Colorado faces Georgia Tech on Aug. 29 to kick off the 2025 campaign. The head coach is betting that consistency and discipline, even in the classroom, will carry over when the lights come on in Folsom Field.
The rules may seem small, such as wearing shoes, leaving the hood down, showing up ready. But under Sanders, every detail matters. And the Buffaloes’ pursuit of another winning season begins not on the field, but in the classroom.
