The Micah Parsons/Dallas Cowboys saga has become the talk of the NFL as it continues on without any resolution.
Everyone seems to have an opinion on it, including former Cowboys quarterback and Hall of Famer Troy Aikman, who added his two cents to the situation on Monday Night Football. Aikman says that without Parsons, the Cowboys won’t win.
“His leverage is that they can’t win without him. … Without Micah Parsons, I don’t think they’re gonna be able to slow anybody down. … He is a generational talent.”
If you have seen how the Cowboys’ defense has looked so far in preseason, you’d understand where Aikman is coming from.
The Cowboys defense gave up 150 yards on the ground to the Baltimore Ravens.
Aikman is not the only former Cowboys star to add his two cents to the situation. Emmitt Smith also talked about what it was like negotiating with Jerry Jones when he had his contract dispute with him over 30 years ago during the Cowboys Super Bowl run.
Smith differs from Aikman when it comes to who has more leverage; however, he thinks the Cowboys right now have the upper hand.
“I lost leverage, and that’s where Micah Parsons is at right now, is not having enough leverage. But he also has another year on his contract, so there’s a distinct difference between a holdout and being a free agent (which Smith was at the time). The NFL did a good job of branding that moniker on me with the public. So everybody brings it up in that context, but I’m here to set this record straight.”
If a deal is to be done, one of the parties involved will have to make a move and so far, no one is willing to do that.
